“There is this mind-set, which I think is so passe, that says: ‘The country is in shambles and the country is having a hard time and you are out there partying.’ But this generation is guiltless when it comes to that.” – Tim Yap
Alex Remollino: Apathy is complicity by inaction. You act as if "all's well with the world," in the words of G.K. Chesterton, while those around you wither to death like plants long deprived of water, you are among those who let this country go on with being what Gelacio Guillermo calls a "basket case of a society." That's an idea that, while definitely ages old, is not "passe" as Mr. Yap so dismissively claims it to be.
If we continue to have more & more people (from the younger generation) thinking this way, then we might as well pack our bags and leave the country.
A:I think the rich has always been guiltless, that's how they become rich in the first place. What they were before was discreet.
B: I enjoy partying.
A. Could Ernest de Veyra/Radioactive Sago's new album (P*t#ngina Mo, Ang Dami'ng Nagugutom Fashionista Ka Pa Rin) be referring to Tim Yap? This article confuses me. MLQ3 says, and Randy David seems to agree (in his Sunday column), that the middle class is becoming extinct. This article suddenly says the middle class is expanding. Which is which?
B. I wouldn't put much weight on the moral/social observations of Peter-Pan-wannabe Tim Yap and someone who sells cars named after a big pussy. They'll speak for any generation that pays them.
C. Who the fuck is Tim Yap to speak in behalf of millions of Filipino youth? Guiltless my ass.
(Parang kakausapin nila ako–isang curimao or orc–in the first place. Hehe.)
Party economics, anyone?
Fweg! Oi, buti nahanap mo to.
Me reunion ba tayong parating?

oh and a shallow reason to hate tim yak? mas may priority show nya sa mtv kesa sa rex in the city (and the number of lifestyle shows became one too many with his show).
Posted by mic at March 16, 2007, 7:42 pmkaasar siya.

guiltless? maybe he’s talking about himself. i would never attribute that word to a lot of my friends who are college students and yuppies. i have a lot of friends involved in volunteer work, animal welfare advocacy, and more friends who dream of becoming business people not only to become rich, but to be able to employ people, help the economy and have ample time for more volunteer work.
Posted by tracy at April 14, 2007, 9:52 pmHi Kapi
Some quick comments:
I’m guilty of spending money on expensive stuff (I bought Prada sunglasses in Milan and I’m planning to buy a secondhand BMW Z3 when I go to the US! but actually it’s more expensive to buy these at home than abroad, so I DONT REALLY spend that much) but I know that I can afford it with money (Euros) that I’ve earned..and I don’t do it everyday (I’ve only eaten foie gras maybe twice in an expensive restaurant here in Toulouse). Guilt aside, I consider these purchases as investments on myself, to regain my sanity as a lonely graduate student and eventually be useful for the country (footnote: I see that you’re working for Mar Roxas. I’m actually interested in the competition policy authority he’s pushing since this is probably my would be area of expertise).
I’m talking without any basis besides my own perception, but I perceive that most people who “patry excessively” are either young people who have very rich parents or those who’ve earned a LITTLE BIT MORE money than the average young pinoy. I have Filipino friends who earn LOTS of money working for big investment banks abroad, but I don’t see this kind of behavior (usually, they don’t even have time to party). I see party-goers as social climbers.
This is getting quite long…I’d like to write a serious comment on the so-called economics of partying. I think the trickle-down effect is full of bull…a simplistic abuse of basic economic logic.
Posted by Mike A. at May 10, 2007, 2:26 pmOi Mike! Kamusta? Long time no hear!
Lastly, I don’t consider party economics as a simplistic abuse of logic, as you said. It is simply an alibi.

Kapi,
If we continue to have more & more people (from the younger generation) thinking this way, then we might as well pack our bags and leave the country. We (the youth) are suppossed to be the “catalysts of change.” Change should start from each one of us.
